Know someone with Advanced Macular Degeneration?
Technology is advancing rapidly in so many ways. A Telescopic Implant may be an option for someone with Advanced Macular Degeneration (AMD). Macular Degeneration affects central vision and can be quite debilitating – as was the case for my father. Certainly something to ask a health care professional about and see if this is an option. Information about this procedure is available at http://www.centrasight.com/
Those dealing with low vision have ways to make life a bit easier. Local resources such as Houston’s Lighthouse for the Blind and the University of Houston’s Low Vision Center are a couple of places to start. Check with your local Area Agency on Aging for resources as well as health care provider. Contrast between light and dark; keeping walkways clear; removing scatter rugs; task lighting are just some of the ways to help those with low vision. Know what works for you and your loved one and remember, safety first!
